Cockle Bay Wharf, Darling Harbour

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Australia participated in Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2010 with Indian cultural performances at Aquashell, Darling Harbour Cockle Bay Wharf between 3:30pm - 4:00pm. The performance was open to all.

The performances included classical, folk and contemporary dance forms. The Bharatanatyam performance was by Samskriti lead by Hamsa Venkat. Her students – Swetha Das, Durga Chandran, Chitra Rangarajan, Alka Kalasbail, Sanjana Kalasbail, Deepthi Sivashanmugam and Sandhya Srinivasan performed on the day.

In the contemporary performances the students of Shri Raghavan Nair’s Indian Dance Centre danced to the tunes of Pagdi (a form of Punjabi folk dance Bhangra), Rajasthani folk and bollywood music. The team was lead by Poornima Sharma and the dancers were Anil Sharma, Kamal Khinda, Sukhwinder Singh, Keerat Mann, Pooja Priyanka, Ashishna Sharma, Rakhi Birla, Deepak Sharma, Bhim Raj Singh, Akshara Prasad, Ravi Sharma, Sheetal, Sue and David D'Silva

On the same day Bhavan Australia participated in another Australia Day celebration at Hyde Park. Here there was an hour long musical performance by Songs Are People which included Mahmood Khan and his band that started at 3:30 pm.
